It’s not often than a hotel can be regarded as a home away from home, but then not all such hotels are like the The Wharf Executive Suites Hotel on the Harbour Road in Paget.
What was once the west wing of the old Inverurie Hotel is now a modern, elegant establishment with 15 suites, ten studios and five one-bedroom suites that are quite spacious and well appointed. It is a natural for executives as all rooms are equipped with executive desks, ergonomic chairs (furniture manufacturing speak for chairs with back supports), two-line speaker phones with voice mail, high-speed internet access, fax machines, printers and copiers. To keep up with international news there is cable television, and for that added comfort -- hair dryers and robes.
One distinct advantage for the business executive, apart from the business-friendly facilities, is that the hotel is a short walk from the ferry dock and a mere seven -minute ride across the water to the City of Hamilton. The Wharf opened in 2002 and prides itself in being a boutique hotel that caters to and anticipates the needs of modern business and extended stay travelers.
The rooms are airy and all command panoramic water views. Complimentary Continental Breakfast is served every morning in the breakfast lounge, which doubles as a kind of meeting place for coffee and tea throughout the day; fresh fruit and a selection of British and American and Canadian magazines and the daily newspaper are always on hand.
“We like to think of it as a home away from home,” says General Manager, Carol Woods. The staff is all Bermudian and her assistant, Patricia Durham, is available to handle reservations and all those sundry duties of a small hotel operation. Can’t get a taxi to Hamilton? Not to worry. The Wharf’s amiable housekeeper/maintenance man Steve Jones, who is sought after by returning guests, will gladly drive you into town in his own car!
The hotel was presented with the “Hibiscus Award of Merit” by the Department of Tourism in 2003 and they are constantly doing all they can to live up to the rating. “We are very popular with business executives who are here on a long or short term basis,” says Woods, who adds that people on holiday and not doing business are just as welcome.
